The Prodigal Son, an Endless Lesson Fiul Risipitor, O Lecție Fără Sfârșit Lk. 15,11-32 Lc. 15,11-32 The Word of God addresses the heart of man of all times. Jesus parable about the Prodigal Son, which we will read this Sunday, never loses its freshness because it is all about us. The Father s love is revealed in His compassion toward the immaturity of His two sons, who are experiencing the sin inherent to the fallen man. The prodigal son is sunken unto himself, experiences egotism, greed, squanders what he thinks is his and defies filial and fraternal love. He falls from Faith and becomes slave to pleasures. However, his hunger brings him to envy the pigs he was tending. He gets estranged of his own self and all that is. Through the prayer of His Father, who never abandons him, he comes to his senses and realizes his condition. Therefore, he wakes up. He deeply decries the mindlessness with which he squandered himself and his father s wealth and decides to return home. He knows he does not deserve to be a son anymore, but hopes to be at least accepted as a servant of His Father. He plans to beg for forgiveness with all his heart and returns from the death of sin to the life of communion with his Father. The older brother, who one would have thought to be settled and well behaved, surprises us by his mean demeanor, jealousy, perfidy and roughness in judging his brother and father. No thought of repentance, whatsoever! He is yet to understand love, forgiveness and communion. The Father, who is none other than Our Father, who is in heaven, shows generosity and an understanding that is rooted in unconditional love. God is love! He suffers and awaits for His children to grow up. Both of them need to return and ask forgiveness. In fact, the one who fell harder, repents deeper, while the one who appeared to be good proved that he still needs to grow up. As about us, we got to realize that sin means losing ourselves and ultimate death. Our return through repentance is the way to find our self and regain life eternal! This inexhaustible lesson is intended to transform us in relationship with God, ourselves and one another. Father Remus Grama Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu merge la inima omului din toate timpurile. Pilda spusă de Iisus despre Fiul Risipitor, pe care o vom citi în această Duminică, nu-și pierde niciodată prospețimea, pentru că, în ea, ne regăsim pe noi. Iubirea Tatălui din parabolă se manifestă prin aceea că El cunoaște și depășește imaturitatea fiilor, care dovedesc păcatele ascunse, inerente omului căzut. El iartă! Fiul risipitor este scufundat în sine, trăiește egoismul, rapacitatea, sfidează iubirea de fiu și de frate, risipește ceea ce crede că i se cuvine. Cade din credință și devine rob al plăcerilor. Decade până la nivelul necuvântătoarelor pe care le păștea. Se înstrăinează de sine și de tot. Prin rugăciunea Tatălui, își vine totuși în fire, realizând propria sa decădere. Deci, se trezește. Regretă profund inconștiența cu care s-a risipit pe sine și averea tatălui său și hotărăște să se întoarcă. Ba mai mult, știe că nu mai poate fi fiu, dar jinduiește să fie măcar un argat al Părintelui său. Își propune, deci, să-și ceară iertare cu zdrobire de inimă și se întoarce din moartea păcatului, la viața de comuniune cu Tatăl. Fratele mai mare, cel despre care la început credeam a fi așezat și cuminte, ne surprinde cu răutatea, gelozia, perfidia și asprimea cu care își judecă tatăl și fratele. La el, nici vorbă de pocăință! El încă mai are să învețe iubirea, iertarea și comuniunea. Părintele, care nu este altul decât Tatăl nostru, care este în ceruri, manifestă dărnicie și înțelegere din iubirea Sa necondiționată. Dumnezeu este iubire. El suferă și așteaptă ca fiii Săi să se maturizeze. Ambii au nevoie să se întoarcă lăuntric, cerându-și iertare. De fapt, cel care a căzut mai tare, se căiește mai profund, iar cel care se crede a fi bun, dovedește că încă trebuie să mai crească. Cât despre noi, se cade să înțelegem că păcatul este pierdere de sine și moarte, iar întoarcerea noastră prin pocăință este calea spre regăsirea de sine și redobândirea vieții veșnice! Iată, o lecție fără sfârșit menită să ne transforme și pe noi, în relație cu Dumnezeu, cu noi înșine și unii cu de alții. ~ Pr. Remus Grama

Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) Sunday, February 28 11 Then He said: A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me. So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. 14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in the land, and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. 17 But when he came to himself, he said, How many of my father s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants. 20 And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. And they began to be merry. 25 Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf. 28 But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. 29 So he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him. 31 And he said to him, Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. 32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.
