7 10.Limba bengaleza - cca 230 de milioane de vorbitori Vorbita cu precadere in Bangladesh, o tara cu peste 120 de milioane de locuitori, si India, limba bengaleza este una dintre cele mai uzitate limbi de pe glob chiar daca intr-un areal destul de restrans fata de celelalte limbi din acest clasament. Alaturi de cele aproximativ 210 limbaje si idiomuri indo-ariene vorbite in Asia, bengaleza a evoluat acum circa de ani din stravechea sanscrita, mai precis din Magadhi Prakrit, limba vorbita de insusi Budha si unul din cele trei limbaje scrise ale Indiei antice. Limba oficiala in Bangladesh si a doua limba ca raspandire in India, bengaleza tinde sa adune cat mai multi vorbitori in viitorul apropiat. Salutul comun in limba bengaleza se propunta "Ei Je". 9. Limba malaeziano-indoneziana - cca 260 de milioane vorbitori Vorbita cu precadere in Indonezia, Malaezia, Brunei, Singapore, sudul Thailandei si al Filipinelor precum si in Timorul de Est, malaeziano-indoneziana este una dintre cele mai uzitate limbi de pe glob, cu 40 de milioane de vorbitori nativi in Malaezia si peste 210 milioane numai in Indonezia. Malaeziana este o limba austroneziana, vorbita curent in Malaezia si Brunei, in timp ce indoneziana este un dialect (numit si Riau) al malaezienei. Limba rusa - cca 278 de milioane de vorbitori Rusa este limba cea mai raspandita, din punct de vedere geografic, din Eurasia, cea mai vorbita limba slava si, totodata, cea mai raspandita limba nativa din Europa. Este vorbita oficial in Rusia, Belarus, Kazahastan, Kirghistan, Moldova, Crimea, Abhazia, Osetia de Sud precum si ca limba secundara in celelalte foste tari membre ale Uniunii Sovietice. Un salut in limba engleza se pronunta "Hello".. - circa 1,4 miliarde de vorbitori Mandarina, limba oficiala in China si Taiwan, este, de departe, cea mai vorbita limba de glob, depasind engleza, din punct de vedere al numarului de vorbitori, intr-un raport de cel putin 2 la 1. Nici nu este de mirare, daca ne gandim ca majoritatea populatiei chineze (cea mai numeroasa de pe glob) vorbeste mandarina. De asemenea, mandarina mai este vorbita in Singapore, Indonezia, Macau, Filipine si in puternice comunitati chineze din SUA, Australia, Peru, Canada, Mauritius sau Rusia. Ca sa saluti in mandarina, trebuie sa spui "Ni hao". 11 Pâques en France C'est une fête chrétienne en mémoire du Christ ressuscité. Pâques se fête toujours un dimanche (le dimanche qui suit le 14ème jour de la lune qui commence en mars). Les cloches de l'église s'arrêtent de sonner pendant 3 jours en signe de deuil, à compter du vendredi saint, date de la mort de Jésus, jusqu'au dimanche de Pâques, date de sa résurection. D'après la légende, les cloches s'arrêtent de sonner parce qu'elles partent à Rome et reviennent chargées de cadeaux. Quand les cloches se remettent à sonner le matin de Pâques, les enfants sortent hors de la maison à la recherche des cadeaux tombés du ciel (oeufs et objets en chocolat cachés dans le jardin). Selon la tradition, on mange de l'agneau en famille ce jour-là. Il est appelé l'agneau pascal, et représente le mouton qu'abraham a tué au lieu de son fils Isaac. 16 Hello! I am Diana Manolica. I am 15 years old. I've got dark eyebrows, straight and dark hair and a beautiful round face. I'm thin; my eyes are brown and lively. I am a very funny and sociable person, with many friends and relatives who love me. In this article I will present my family. It is composed of my mother Alina, my father Dorica, my brother Silviu and I, Diana. My mom is a splendid and gentle woman. Her hair is long and straight, her hazel eyes are so beautiful and give you confidence. She is hardworking and kind. I consider her the best mother in the world. Her hands are so soft and with a caress she makes you forget all worries. Her voice makes my heart startle and her eyes makes up for a thousand words. My mother is an angel sent to earth to teach me and help me get over the difficulties of life. She is the only creature who loves me sincerely because she gave me life. I love her a lot! He is my father! My dad is a confident and lively man. His hair is black as ebony and curly; his hazel eyes are beautiful and profound. He is mature, but his mentality makes me smile even though I have many problems and worries just because he has a well developed sense of humour. I inherited this character from him and I know how to make people smile even if they have hundreds of problems, he's always beside his little girl. I love him too! This is my brother, Silviu. 19 Roberto: I do not know how other people think about me but I consider myself a good person, not too naughty. I want to get my driver s license soon and to buy myself a Ford Mustang. For those who do not know me I can describe myself as a thin, medium height guy, with green to blue eyes and light brown hair. I like playing football, staying and chatting with my friends all day long. I do not like all school subjects but I can live just fine with this idea. I prefer fruit to chips and fast food because I like to keep fit. My favourite TV channels are Discovery and Digi Film. I have two brothers: Margareta and Daniel. I love them very much. Brandusa: What can I say about myself? I am a shy, quiet but happy person. I am neither aggressive, nor passive, just interesting. When I am at home, but also at schools, I am relaxed and good-tempered. I am a bit romantic and I get easily upset if things do not turn up the way I expect them to. I m an outspoken, warm, easy-going person, but at the same time shy, serious and quiet. I am good, but not an angel. I sin, but I m not the Devil. I am pretty but I m not perfect. I have many friends but I am not a peacemaker. I m just a small girl in a big world. I have as hobbies: music, literature, navigating on the Internet and speaking on messenger with my classmates and friends. Stefan: I live in Botesti village. I am fifteen years old. I have dark black hair, an oval face and dark eyes. I like to dress myself with blue jeans and black jumpers. I do not have any brothers but I would have liked one. I am serious, enthusiastic, happy, interesting and good-tempered. I am a student at school in Girov. The best class is that of Physical Education. My other favourite subjects are: Romanian, Mathematics and Geography. In my free time I help my parents with their chores. My hobby is football and I practice it as much as I can in my spare time. 25 Disneyland Paris Disneyland Paris, anciennement Euro Disney Resort et Disneyland Resort Paris, est un complexe touristique et urbain de 22,30 km2 (2 230 ha) situé en sa majeure partie sur la commune de Chessy (département de Seine-et-Marne), à trente-deux kilomètres à l'est de Paris. Le complexe touristique comprend deux parcs à thèmes le Parc Disneyland et le Parc Walt Disney Studios ainsi que des hôtels et un golf, tandis que le complexe urbain intensifie le tissu du secteur 4 de Marne-la-Vallée au travers du Syndicat d'agglomération nouvelle du Vald'Europe. Le site est favorisé par de nombreux transports, dont une gare TGV subventionnée par l'état français et inaugurée le 31 mars 1992, une prolongation de la ligne de RER A, financée par la région, et des infrastructures routières comme la bretelle de liaison avec l'autoroute A4. Le complexe est exploité par la société Euro Disney SCA détenu à 39 % par la Walt Disney Company mais la structure financière autour de la gestion et de l'exploitation de Disneyland Paris est très complexe. Euro Disney SCA a développé à l'image du complexe de Walt Disney World Resort, de nombreuses activités autour de ses deux parcs à thèmes. On peut noter le centre commercial Val d'europe, le centre d'affaire Arlington Business Square et le projet Villages Nature avec Pierre et Vacances. 28 LONDON By Prof. Ilies Lacramioara London s Climate: London has a temperate climate. English summers rarely get hot, though the last couple of years have had July heat waves. The winters don t get very cold, though they are often wet. It is impossible to say with any degree of certainty that the weather will be pleasant in any given month. London s Parks and Green Spaces: Fully protected animals other than birds include all bat species, common dormouse, great crested newt, badger, otter, and a recent discovery, the tentacled lagoon worm, the water vole. Furthermore, there are some specially These species are protected only from trade. protected plants such as greater yellow-rattle, the recently discovered creeping marshwort, pennyroyal and early gentian. Victoria Park: It stretches over 218 acres, being comprised within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Regent s Park: This park is reserved for pedestrians and it is among the largest and richest parks in London. London Zoo: This is the world s oldest scientific zoo and it was first built to serve as a collection for scientific study. It is the first to open a Reptile House (1849), a Public Aquarium (1853), an Insect House (1881) and a Children Zoo (1938). It is one of London s grandest architectural set-pieces. This square commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar, which was an important British naval victory of Napoleon. 28

29 Parliament Square: It represents one of the city s first traffic roundabouts. Here lie the statues of Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Disraeli and Jan Smuts. Soho: The name has nothing to do with the district called as such since it is in fact a blend of South and Houston. In the 1980 if you lived in Soho it meant that you have problems with the law. Nowadays, Soho is known for its eclectic mix of different boutiques for shopping, including great names such as Prada, Chanel, Apple. Piccadilly Circus: Piccadilly is in fact a thorough fare whose name first appeared in 1626 as Pickadilly Hall, named after a house belonging to a certain Robert Baker, a tailor who was famous for selling piccadills or piccadillies, a term used for various types of collars. The Tower of London: The Tower of London became famous as a place of imprisonment and death. It has variously been used as a royal residence, armoury, mint, menagerie, observatory and a safe deposit box for the Crown Jewels. Madame Tussaud s: This famous wax museum was set up by a wax sculptor named Marie Tussaud ( ). She was born in Strasbourg, France. She created her first wax figure of Francois Marie Arouet de Voltaire in Jean- Jaques Rousseau and Benjamin Franklin are just two examples of famous people she has modelled. The British Museum: The British Museum was first founded as a universal museum. It was established in 1753 based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. Means of transport: Buses - London s bus network is one of the largest and most complex urban transport systems in the world. Every weekday 6 million passengers are transported via busses on over 700 different routes. 29

32 The Story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves Once upon a time, long, long ago a king and queen ruled over a distant land. The queen was kind and lovely and all the people of the realm adored her. The only sadness in the queen's life was that she wished for a child but did not have one. One winter day, the queen was doing needle work while gazing out her ebony window at the new fallen snow. A bird flew by the window startling the queen and she pricked her finger. A single drop of blood fell on the snow outside her window. As she looked at the blood on the snow she said to herself, "Oh, how I wish that I had a daughter that had skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony." Soon after that, the kind queen got her wish when she gave birth to a baby girl who had skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony. They named the baby princess Snow White, but sadly, the queen died after giving birth to Snow White. Soon after, the king married a new woman who was beautiful, but as well proud and cruel. She had studied dark magic and owned a magic mirror, of which she would daily ask, Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all? Each time this question was asked, the mirror would give the same answer, "Thou, O Queen, art the fairest of all." This pleased the queen greatly as she knew that her magical mirror could speak nothing but the truth. One morning when the queen asked, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" she was shocked when it answered: You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But Snow White is even fairer than you. The Queen flew into a jealous rage and ordered her huntsman to take Snow White into the woods to be killed. She demanded that the huntsman return with Snow White's heart as proof. The poor huntsman took Snow White into the forest, but found himself unable to kill the girl. Instead, he let her go, and brought the queen the heart of a wild boar. Snow White was now all alone in the great forest, and she did not know what to do. The trees seemed to whisper to each other, scaring Snow White who began to run. She ran over sharp stones and through thorns. She ran as far as her feet could carry her, and just as evening was about to fall she saw a little house and went inside in order to rest. 32

33 Inside the house everything was small but tidy. There was a little table with a tidy, white tablecloth and seven little plates. Against the wall there were seven little beds, all in a row and covered with quilts. Because she was so hungry Snow White ate a few vegetables and a little bread from each little plate and from each cup she drank a bit of milk. Afterward, because she was so tired, she lay down on one of the little beds and fell fast asleep. After dark, the owners of the house returned home. They were the seven dwarves who mined for gold in the mountains. As soon as they arrived home, they saw that someone had been there -- for not everything was in the same order as they had left it. The first one said, "Who has been sitting in my chair?" The second one, "Who has been eating from my plate?" The third one, "Who has been eating my bread?" The fourth one, "Who has been eating my vegetables?" The fifth one, "Who has been eating with my fork?" The sixth one, "Who has been drinking from my cup?" But the seventh one, looking at his bed, found Snow White lying there asleep. The seven dwarves all came running up, and they cried out with amazement. They fetched their seven candles and shone the light on Snow White. "Oh good heaven! " they cried. "This child is beautiful!" They were so happy that they did not wake her up, but let her continue to sleep in the bed. The next morning Snow White woke up, and when she saw the seven dwarves she was frightened. But they were friendly and asked, "What is your name?" "My name is Snow White," she answered. "How did you find your way to our house?" the dwarves asked further. Then she told them that her stepmother had tried to kill her, that the huntsman had spared her life, and that she had run the entire day through the forest, finally stumbling upon their house. The dwarves spoke with each other for awhile and then said, "If you will keep house for us, and cook, make beds, wash, sew, and knit, and keep everything clean and orderly, then you can stay with us, and you shall have everything that you want." "Yes," said Snow White, "with all my heart." For Snow White greatly enjoyed keeping a tidy home. 33

34 So Snow White lived happily with the dwarves. Every morning they went into the mountains looking for gold, and in the evening when they came back home Snow White had their meal ready and their house tidy. During the day the girl was alone, except for the small animals of the forest that she often played with. Now the queen, believing that she had eaten Snow White's heart, could only think that she was again the first and the most beautiful woman of all. She stepped before her mirror and said: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who in this land is fairest of all? It answered: You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But Snow White, beyond the mountains With the seven dwarves, Is still a thousand times fairer than you. This startled the queen, for she knew that the mirror did not lie, and she realized that the huntsman had deceived her and that Snow White was still alive. Then she thought, and thought again, how she could rid herself of Snow White -- for as long as long as she was not the most beautiful woman in the entire land her jealousy would give her no rest. At last she thought of something. She went into her most secret room -- no one else was allowed inside -- and she made a poisoned apple. From the outside it was beautiful, and anyone who saw it would want it. But anyone who might eat a little piece of it would died. Coloring her face, she disguised herself as an old peddler woman, so that no one would recognize her, traveled to the dwarves house and knocked on the door. Snow White put her head out of the window, and said, "I must not let anyone in; the seven dwarves have forbidden me to do so." "That is all right with me," answered the peddler woman. "I'll easily get rid of my apples. Here, I'll give you one of them." "No," said Snow White, "I cannot accept anything from strangers." "Are you afraid of poison?" asked the old woman. "Look, I'll cut the apple in two. You eat half and I shall eat half." Now the apple had been so artfully made that only the one half was poisoned. Snow White longed for the beautiful apple, and when she saw that the peddler woman was eating part of it 34

35 she could no longer resist, and she stuck her hand out and took the poisoned half. She barely had a bite in her mouth when she fell to the ground dead. The queen looked at her with an evil stare, laughed loudly, and said, "White as snow, red as blood, black as ebony wood! The dwarves shall never awaken you." Back at home she asked her mirror: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who in this land is fairest of all? It finally answered: You, my queen, are fairest of all. Then her cruel and jealous heart was at rest, as well as a cruel and jealous heart can be at rest. When the dwarves came home that evening they found Snow White lying on the ground. She was not breathing at all. She was dead. They lifted her up and looked at her longingly. They talked to her, shook her and wept over her. But nothing helped. The dear child was dead, and she remained dead. They laid her on a bed of straw, and all seven sat next to her and mourned for her and cried for three days. They were going to bury her, but she still looked as fresh as a living person, and still had her beautiful red cheeks. They said, "We cannot bury her in the black earth," and they had a transparent glass coffin made, so she could be seen from all sides. They laid her inside, and with golden letters wrote on it her name, and that she was a princess. Then they put the coffin outside on a mountain, and one of them always stayed with it and watched over her. The animals too came and mourned for Snow White, first an owl, then a raven, and finally a dove. Now it came to pass that a prince entered these woods and happened onto the dwarves' house, where he sought shelter for the night. He saw the coffin on the mountain with beautiful Snow White in it, and he read what was written on it with golden letters. Then he said to the dwarves, "Let me have the coffin. I will give you anything you want for it." But the dwarves answered, "We will not sell it for all the gold in the world." Then he said, "Then give it to me, for I cannot live without being able to see Snow White. I will honor her and respect her as my most cherished one." As he thus spoke, the good dwarves felt pity for him and gave him the coffin. The prince had his servants carry it away on their shoulders. But then it happened that one of them stumbled on some brush, aănd this dislodged from Snow White's throat the piece of poisoned apple that she 35

36 had bitten off. Not long afterward she opened her eyes, lifted the lid from her coffin, sat up, and was alive again. "Good heavens, where am I?" she cried out. The prince said joyfully, "You are with me." He told her what had happened, and then said, "I love you more than anything else in the world. Come with me to my father's castle. You shall become my wife." Snow White loved him, and she went with him. Their wedding was planned with great splendor and majesty. Snow White's wicked step-mother was invited to the feast, and when she had arrayed herself in her most beautiful garments, she stood before her mirror, and said: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who in this land is fairest of all? The mirror answered: You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But the young queen is a thousand times fairer than you. Not knowing that this new queen was indeed her stepdaughter, she arrived at the wedding, and her heart filled with the deepest of dread when she realized the truth - the evil queen was banished from the land forever and the prince and Snow White lived happily ever after.
